Three or more people who are related in any type of family unit will attend therapy to work through differences they're unable to resolve on their own. Similar to couples counseling, your therapist will act as an objective third party who will reflect back to the family what he/she observes and help to prioritize issues for focused, productive sessions. At GCC, we ascribe to the analogy that therapy is a mirror, offering a glimpse back to you of that which you are presenting. Sometimes, we don't like what we see in the mirror; other times we're glad we looked. In therapy, you may receive glimpses of yourself that are difficult to accept, acknowledge, or change. Family members who attend together should come voluntarily--with an open heart and mind. It is in that space that communication, respect, and interactions will be most improved or strengthened.
